The cities in Australia all have a different vibe and are all worth visiting in their own unique way. You have the grandeur of the large tourist sites in Sydney, such as the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. Melbourne, the culture capital of Australia, offers trendy cafes with the best flat whites, and an eclectic music scene. The pace of life slows down in Brisbane, and walking in the stunning Southbank takes you away from the hustle and bustle of the larger cities. Multicultural flavours infuse Adelaide's restaurants; there's a pumping arts and live-music scene; and the city's festival calendar has vanquished dull Saturday nights. Perth may be isolated compared to it’s east-coast relatives, however it’s a beautiful city full of leafy parks and modern architecture, with the sweeping Swan River hugging the centre of it.
Whether it’s in one of the cities incredible zoos, or in nature, the wildlife in Australia is varied and interesting. Land of the marsupial, there are many creatures that we do not find in the UK. Discover Koalas sleeping in the eucalyptus trees around the Blue Mountains, a red Kangaroo bouncing majestically in the Red Centre, or a kookaburra stealing your food in Brisbane. All these encounters will enhance your Australia experience.
Outside of the cities the options multiply. Most states offer the option for world class wine tours. Whether it be the crisp Riesling of the Clare Valley (South Australia), the sumptuous Pinot Noir of the Yarra Valley (Victoria) or the deeper reds of the Margaret River (Western Australia), you are guaranteed stunning scenery, informative tours and of course, exceptional wines.
Australia boasts the world’s largest coral reef, the Great Barrier Reef, which has over 3000 individual coral reef systems. There are many beautiful places along the Queensland coast from which you can access the reef, and a visitor to the Great Barrier Reef can enjoy many experiences. These include snorkelling, scuba diving, aircraft or helicopter tours, glass-bottomed boat viewing, semi-submersibles and educational trips, cruise ship tours, whale watching and swimming with dolphins. For lovers of marine wildlife and water sports this is a veritable paradise. An alternative is Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia, which has the world’s largest fringing reef. This is the best place in the world to see Whale Sharks, the gentle giant of the sea, and has the benefit of reef access directly from the sparkling beach.
There are a multitude of exceptional National Parks in Australia. From Purnululu National Park in the Kimberley Region of Western Australia with incredible waterfalls, walking tracks, rock formations and jaw-dropping views, to the wetlands and aboriginal culture of Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory and the snowy peaks of Kosciusko National Park in New South Wales, whatever you want to experience you can do it here. Gorges, bushland, exceptional vistas and waterfalls can all be discovered on an Australian adventure.
Australia is the driest inhabited continent in the World, with 70% of the country classed as arid or semi-arid. Of this, the deserts make up 18% of this huge country, and are known as the Australian Outback. There are many incredible experiences and adventures to be had in this part of Australia. One option is to drive from South Australia, all the way through the red centre, ending in Darwin. On the way you can experience the thrill of the endless desert, the exceptional gorges and mountains built into the scenery, such as Uluru and Kings Canyon, and the lush National Parks the further north you go. Alternatively you can discover this fascinating scenery on one of the long train journeys, for example The Ghan runs south to north and the Indian Pacific runs east to west.
Australia is so vast that you can spend forever exploring here. We can arrange long tours made up of multi-day trips into the remotest regions, shorter holidays with day trips from the cities to discover more accessible, but equally as stunning, scenery or anything in between. Our Adventure Designers can focus your trip to suit your preferences and motivations for travelling to this exceptional destination using our bespoke and impartial service.
