Everest Base Camp
Nepal is a magical and spiritual destination. Trekkers and climbers flock here every year to experience the grandeur and majesty of the Himalayas. Of all the mountain ranges here, nowhere is as mysterious as Everest, and the trek to Everest Base Camp is at the top of many peoples bucket lists.

Depending on the time you have available there are a number of route options to get you to and from EBC, but as a guide you will need a minimum of 11 days to make this momentous trek. Everyone begins with a flight to Lukla, the mountain village which marks the trailhead. Wherever your route takes you from Lukla, you will encounter some of the most spectacular views in the world, interact with amazing local people and get close to the Buddhist culture. Given the elevation increase, it is necessary to underake acclimatisation days at two points during the trek. Every guide will do one of these in Namche Bazaar, an almost mystical place for Nepal enthusiasts, which is a bustling town of trekkers, climbers, locals, pubs, cafes and accommodation. Above Namche, in the beautiful village of Tengboche, you can visit the large 100 year old Buddhist monastery, and if you’re lucky you will witness prayers with the monks, and experience the incredible atmosphere of their chanting.
On the final day ascending you arrive at Gorek Shep, a collection of tea-houses erected especially for trekkers heading to base camp, or climbers intending to venture beyond base camp with the ultimate aim of summiting the highest mountain in the world. After re-fuelling here you will continue on to the final destination, Everest Base Camp. The walk along the Khumbu Glacier moraine is mesmerising and it is hard not to be humbled by the vastness and splendour of the scenery. It is hard to describe the feeling when you finally venture onto the glacier at the official base camp. You will witness elation, emotion and exhaustion from your fellow trekkers.
For the quickest route down, many people retrace their steps through Tengboche to Namche Bazaar and back to Lukla, however we would urge people with a little more time to follow the route around the valley and come back through Pheriche. It is an awesome sight looking across the valley at the same Buddhist monastery that only a few days previously you had been sat inside.
Everest Base Camp is the epitome of a bucket list activity, and whilst you need to be fit, it is accessible for everyone with a bit of training. When our specialists at Destination Seekers went, they met everyone from children to 80 year olds fulfilling their dreams.
