Bolivia experiences dry and wet seasons, both with their own pros and cons, as well as two shoulder months. 

Dry Season

May to October

Falling mostly during the southern hemispheres winter, the dry season is also the high season in Bolivia. This is a great time of year for experiencing nature and is perfect for hiking and other outdoor pursuits. This is particularly true for the Andean zone, although the highlands will be cold, especially at night. At this time in the year, the lowlands weather is still warm, and it's less humid than it is over the rest of the year, given the reduced chance of torrential rain.

Wet Season

December to March

Despite being Bolivia’s low season, this time of year is a beautiful time to visit. With the rain, the valleys shine in their natural splendour and allow visitors to raft and kayak in waters increased by rainfall. It’s also a fabulous time to go to Salar de Uyuni, where the flooded salt flats present like a mirror to the sky. Another factor in favour of travelling to Bolivia in the wet season is that it is prime time for experiencing the culture of the country due to the number of events on offer. The downside of this time of year is that flooding can disrupt travel so there may be a need to be flexible with you timetable.

Shoulder Season

April and November

These two months are perfect for visiting Bolivia if you plan to travel to a number of different regions. Offering sunny days, cool nights, and less rain that the wet season both the lowlands and the highlands feel more accessible. If you’re interested in local traditions and plan your adventure for November, you will be lucky enough to experience the Day of the Dead.
