East Canada itinerary
Days 1 to 2: Toronto
Arrive in Toronto, a multiculturally diverse city. This is the perfect place to start your Canada adventure. The city offers a lively harbour front, bustling streets and plenty of international charm. For another side of the city look for tranquillity in Toronto on the water.
Take a boat trip along Lake Ontario where you’ll have plenty of fantastic views of the city skyline. You can get off at Centre Island for a walk or to hire a bike and cycle around. Once you are back in Toronto, you can walk to the iconic CN tower for spectacular views of the city, or take a trip to St Lawrence Market.
Days 2 to 3: Niagara
Today you’ll collect your rental car and make your way to Niagara to see the famous thundering falls. You’ll spend two days here undertaking a number of different activities to experience this extraordinary sight. You’ll take a boat across the falls on the well-known ‘Hornblower’, a very calm sail initially and a fabulous location to view the impressive and powerful falls. The closer you get you’ll want to make sure that you are wearing your poncho as you will get wetter and wetter. In addition, the sound of the thundering water will get louder and louder.
For a different perspective we recommend a walk behind the falls, or a walk to Table Rock Centre for a beautiful view over the Horseshoe Falls.
Days 4 to 5: Algonquin National Park
Having left Niagara, you will spend the next few days immersing yourself in the tranquillity of the Canadian wilderness. No matter what your ability and fitness level, Algonquin National Park leaves you spoiled for choice. There are over 20 trails so everyone is catered for. One moderate trail, known as the ‘Mizzy Lake’, is a beautiful path that leads through forests, lakes and gives you an excellent chance to see some diverse wildlife.
For a challenge you can take the ‘Booth’s Rock’ trail which follows an abandoned railway for breath-taking views of the sweeping lakes and forests. Another option is joining a local guide on a 3-hour canoe tour, where you’ll explore the most scenic and stunning lakes in the park.
Day 6 to 7: Ottawa
Having left the beauty of Algonquin behind, today you will arrive in Canada’s dynamic Capital, Ottawa. You have time here to explore the city, including the Peace tower at Parliament Hill, or ByWard market. There is an excellent choice of food here so enjoy your evening too.
The following day, board an amphibus that will drive you by land and over water through the picturesque capital. Whilst on this journey you will pass over fifty sites and learn the incredible history of the city.
Days 7 to 8: Quebec
The next stop on your tour is the incredible Quebec City, where French culture thrives. The day of your arrival is yours to explore at your pace. Quebec’s top sites include the famous Museum of Civilisation and the Le Chateau Frontenac.
In the morning join a guide to discover picturesque Old Quebec, immersing yourself in its history. Another option is to take a fabulous tasting tour.
Days 9-10: Tadoussac
In the morning you’ll have plenty of time to explore more of Quebec, for example by taking a ferry on St Lawrence River.
After travelling a short distance from the city centre, you will arrive in Tadoussac. You have the first day free to explore, for example the marine centre where you can get information on local sea creatures, or there are four different hiking paths that take you around the village, giving you the best chance of spying whales.
The next day you’ll wake bright and early and head out to sea by Zodiac in search of the whales. St Lawrence River is an exceptional place for whale watching, due to its rich waters, high production of phytoplankton and the thirteen species of whale that can be found here. If you still have energy in the afternoon, make a trip to the Sand Dunes of Tadoussac, which is an ideal place for a walk on the beach along the fjord.
Day 11: Lighthouse on St. Lawrence
Today you’ll make your way to Riviere-Du-Loup, on the banks of the St. Lawrence River where you’ll spend the night in a restored lighthouse. If you’re lucky you may see a beluga whale swimming past. Spend the day exploring the island, taking one of the hiking trails to viewpoints where you can spot seals sunbathing.
Days 12 to 14: Montreal
This morning you have time to take another stroll, or relax at the lighthouse, before catching the ferry back to the mainland. Then you will drive to your final stop, Montreal. When you arrive in the city you will drop your car back before starting your adventure here.
Montreal is one of the largest French-speaking cities in the world. You’ll spend your first day exploring the city; take a trip to Mount Royal located in the heart of the city, a mountain that gives you breath-taking views of the skyscrapers in the city, or alternatively take an adventure down the cobbled streets of Old Montreal.
On your second day take a guided walking or cycle tour. You’ll pass must-see attractions and secret places, discovering insights into the city’s history and culture.
Day 14: Flight home
Today it’s time to say goodbye to Canada and make your way to the airport to catch your flight home.
West Canada Road-Trip
Day 1 to 2: Calgary
Your tour starts in the charming city of Calgary. Things to do here include Glenbow Museum, Calgary Tower, Prince’s Island Park. You will take a guided walking tour here to find out more about this great destination.
Day 3: Edmonton
Your next stop is Edmonton. You should visit the Art Gallery of Alberta, Fort Edmonton Park, Head-Smashed-In Bison Jump, North America’s oldest buffalo archaeological site, Royal Alberta Museum, and Alberta Railway Museum. We can book a guided tour with a local if you want to get interesting insights into Edmonton.
Day 4 to 5: Jasper
You are in for a treat on your next location. A wild and authentic National Park, Jasper is an absolute must when touring Western Canada. Options here include Miette Hot Springs, where you can enjoy a fabulous springs surrounded by jaw-dropping mountain scenery. You can take the Skytram cable car in Jasper up to Mount Whistler for remarkable views of the area. Another experience not to be missed is Maligne Canyon, a narrow canyon 50 metres deep. Cross the canyon on one of the six bridges and explore one of the many trails.
Other options include a rafting trip in the Athabasca Falls, excellent for families, watching wildlife in tranquil scenery whilst navigating the beautiful Maligne Lake and for animal lovers, there are tours for wildlife viewing in the national park.
Day 6 to 7: Lake Louise
Your next stop is the most exquisite place in the Rocky Mountains. Rent kayaks or canoes and roam around the ice-cold waters of Lake Louise. Alternatively go hiking or skiing around the exceptionally stunning vibrant blue lake. For outstanding views over Lake Louise take the cable car up to the top of Mount Whitehorn.
Day 8 to 9: Banff
Banff is a city in the middle of a national park and there are lots of adventures to be had here and in the surrounding areas. Fairmont Banff Springs is an iconic building built in 1888, Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies is well worth a visit. Outside of the city, Banff National Park, in the middle of the Rocky Mountains has many adventures to discover in the wild, boasting astonishing landscapes to do it in. For breath-taking views in the national park, take the gondola to the top of Sulphur Mountain, horse ride or take a tour in a Big Canoe, take a helicopter flight over the Rockies, or if you want big thrills take a rafting trip on the Kananaskis River.
Day 10 to 11: Kelowna
Kelowna, the next stop, is a fertile valley covered in fruit trees. Here you can discover Okanagan Lake, a huge glacial lake, explore Big White, British-Columbia’s second largest ski resort, visit Mission Hill Winery for some excellent wine tasting, or take a food tour in a city famed for its good food.
Day 12 to 13: Whistler
Whistler is a lovely mountain village, and a highlight of a driving tour of western Canada. Here you will discover a ski resort with over 200 slopes. You can rent snowshoes and hike the fabulous landscape or visit Whistler Olympic Park. This is an active destination, and outside of the obvious skiing, there are five zip lines in Whistler, you can take a horse-riding tour, and for an extra special experience fly over the Whistler Valley on a bucket-list 20-minute scenic flight.
Day 14: Vancouver
Vancouver is the perfect blend of city and nature, and an excellent place to end this fabulous two week itinerary in Western Canada. You will drop your car off here and then embark on a tour of the city. Places to visit include Stanley Park, which offers a spectacular view over the ocean and mountains, Granville Island Public Market, one of the best marketplaces in Canada, English Bay Beach, Vancouver’s own urban beach, Vancouver Art Gallery, and Dr Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, a lovely and intimate garden where turtles swim around and a real peaceful heaven in the heart of the city.
Day 15: Fly home
