Nepal is not at the top of most people’s destinations for a family holiday, however look a little closer and you will find that it is a fabulous place for an adventurous and unique family escape. From temples to wildlife, mountains to rivers, not to mention fabulous people and beautiful UNESCO World Heritage towns such as Bandipur, you will never regret getting off the beaten track to this wonderful destination.
Highlights of a family trip to Nepal include:
Chitwan National Park: whether you’re exploring on foot or by boat, children will love discovering the wildlife in Chitwan. Animals to look out for include the one-horned rhinoceros, Royal Bengal tigers, wild elephants, fourhorned antelope, pangolin, golden monitor lizards and pythons. After a day exploring, head back to a great resort overlooking the jungle to relax.
Pokhara: the second city of Nepal is spectacular. Take a family boat ride across the lake or walk up to the look out to take in the breath-taking views across the city and the mountain range beyond.
Annapurna Mountain Range: the backdrop to Pokhara, this mountain range is an excellent place to take kids hiking. It is very accessible and allows for any length of hike, from a couple of days to 10 days all the way to Annapurna Base Camp. If you’re an active family you can definitely take children from as young as 5 and will be able to walk far enough to get really immersed into the mountains.
Trishuli River: although Nepal is famous for hiking, there are a wealth of other activities to add to your itinerary. Children will love rafting here, as well as the opportunity to sleep on the river bank.
