Mexico City is the forefront of Mexico’s cultural scene. Stroll through the buzzing downtown area to discover the capital’s history, from pre-Hispanic and colonial-era architecture to the contemporary metropolis. You will find amazing museums, modern galleries, and fabulous plazas in this culturally diverse city. Oaxaca captivates visitors with its fantastic Mexican cuisine, gorgeous handicrafts, fiestas, colonial architecture, booming arts scene and fine mezcals distilled in nearby villages. This intensely attractive city is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Mexico’s second-largest city, Guadalajara is astounding. Many quintessentially Mexican images have their roots here, such as mariachi music, wide-brimmed sombreros and charreadas. However, Guadalajara is as much a leader of the new Mexico as it is protector of the old.
The most popular of Mexico's ancient sights, Chichén Itzá is simply spectacular. From the imposing, monumental El Castillo pyramid to the Sacred Cenote and El Caracol, the Mayan history will excite you. You can also visit at night for the sound-and-light show. The beautiful Tulum benefits from it’s dramatic position on the Caribbean, sitting on glistening white sands, beside crystal-clear waters. You will find luxury resorts and incredible restaurants, plus other fascinating Mayan ruins in the surrounding areas. Located 30 miles from Mexico City, Teotihuacan was at one point the biggest city in central Mexico and one of the largest in the world. The city dates back to 400 B.C. and displays components of different cultures including Maya, Zapotec, and Mixtec. The highlights here are definitely the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon.
Costa Maya offers visitors exceptionally quiet beaches. Whereas Cancun and Riviera Maya offer excellent luxury resort options, you can still find quiet fishing villages in this area. You will also find some of the best dive sites on the Caribbean coast. If diving is your thing, Cabo Pulmo offers the only significant reef on the west coast. You will be rewarded with black coral bushes, plus schools of horse-eye jacks and triggerfish. You may also spy hammerhead sharks, huge manta rays and whale sharks. With coves backed by lush tropical mountains, expanses of sand, and mangrove-fringed lagoons teeming with birdlife, Mexico's Pacific coastline offers stunning natural beauty. Punctuating this natural grandeur are lively resort towns including Puerto Vallarta, Ixtapa and Acapulco. You will also find world-class surf spots such as Barra de Nexpa, Boca de Pascuales, and Puerto Escondido.
There are many other options in this extraordinary destination, such as The Ferrocarril Chihuahua Pacífico (Copper Canyon Railway), one of Latin America’s best rail trips. You will experience alpine forests, subtropical valleys, Tarahumara villages and some of the world’s deepest canyons. The brilliant ancient Zapotec capital, Monte Albán, is within easy distance of indigenous craft-making villages, and the cool, forested hills of the Sierra Norte, perfect for outdoor activities. As volcanoes go, Paricutín is in its adolescence being one of the youngest volcanoes on Earth. The dormant cone is a relatively easy to climb, either by walking across barren lava fields to reach the peak, or riding horses before dismounting for the final summit scramble. For adventurous travellers, the remote La Huasteca Potosina region presents iridescent tropical flowers and thick jungles hiding a series of stunning waterfalls and swimming holes.
This is merely a handful of the delights on offer when visiting Mexico. We highly recommend Mexico as fantastic destination for a tailormade tour, combining spellbinding beaches with intriguing ancient ruins and laid-back towns.
