Costa Rica is an excellent introduction to Central America with children, and offers an unforgettable experience for the entire family. Monteverde Cloud Forest: a highlight for families, there are a plethora of activities to keep children happy here. Walk on the suspension bridge high in the forest, take a night hike to discover wildlife or embark on a coffee tour.
Ziplines: Costa Rica has stunning rainforests, and the whole family will enjoy exploring these on foot. Those looking for a bit more adventure can ride one of the extraordinary ziplines. Although not all take young children, some do and they will be attached to a guide for safety. As well as the thrill, you will also get spectacular views of the surrounding scenery.
River rafting: there are many options, including gentler rivers for very young children. This will be an exciting adventurous addition to your itinerary.
Parque Nacional Volcán Arenal: bathe below a stunning waterfall after a short hike, which will be fun for all the family.
Wildlife spotting: one of the highlights of a trip to Costa Rica is trying to find the myriad of wildlife there is on offer here. Take a boat in Parque Nacional Tortuguero, and discover birds, iguanas, monkeys and sloths. A walk in the jungle will offer the family sightings of stunning animals, for example children may find tapirs, jaguars and many bird species in the ecological heaven that is Corcovado National Park.
Turtles: if you visit between July and December, a highlight for the family will be witnessing turtles laying eggs on a Costa Rican beach. One place to see this amazing event is Playa Ostional.
Rincon de la Vieja National Park: in this fantastic park you will find geothermic activities, including mud pools and hot springs, which will delight the whole family. There are also incredible walks from short hikes for small children, to challenging treks up the volcano with older children.
