Malaysia for Nature Lovers
Day 1 to 2: Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur is an exceptional cosmopolitan city and your arrival point to Malaysia. There are many fabulous sites to take in on a tour here.
You can’t visit Kuala Lumpur without going to see the iconic Petronas Towers, which were once the tallest buildings in the world. Other places to explore include the vibrant Chinatown, the Indian temple of Sri Mahamariamman, the Chinese temple of Guan Di, and Merdeka Square where you can see Jamek Mosque and the impressive Sultan Abdul Samad Building, which will enable you to soak up the culture here. The atmospheric Petaling Street is also a must see, although a little rough around the edges.
*Optional tour: if you have the time, add a guided tour of the vibrant Batu Caves.
Days 3 to 5: Taman Negara
This 130 million-year-old rainforest is a highlight on many Malaysia itineraries. From Kuala Lumpur you travel to Kuala Tahan, the village at the heart of the park, via bus and boat. Once here you can walk on canopy bridges, take guided nature walks, and meeting the local community who live in the forest.
Days 6 to 8: Cameron Highlands
A trip to Malaysia wouldn’t be complete without the Cameron Highlands, a misty land of rolling hills and tea plantations stretching as far as the eye can see. This itinerary includes two days in the Cameron Highlands, which includes guided tours of tea plantations and strawberry fields and hiking in the Cameron Highlands.
Days 9 to 11: Penang
Penang is a fabulous destination, offering lots of nature, hiking and scenery. Spend time exploring Penang National Park and spend the day trekking, walking the Canopy Walkway and visiting Monkey Beach. In addition to the outdoor pursuits, the laid back George Town is known for street art famously created by Ernest Zacharevic, and world-class street food.
Days 12 to 14: Langkawi
Finish your Malaysia adventure on a beautiful beach on Langkawi. This stunning island offers relaxed holiday vibes, as well as wildlife and natural scenery. Watch eagles soar to catch fish, swim and visit quieter beaches.
Days 15: Journey home
Borneo adventure
Day 1 to 2: Huching
Arrive in Huchin. Visit the Semengoh Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and then continue to Sarawak Cultural Village for demonstrations of traditional arts and crafts and daily activities of local communities.
Day 3 to 4: Mulu
Fly to Mulu in Northern Sarawak. Take a walk in the rainforest to Lang’s Cave, the world ‘s largest cave passage, and at Deer Cave witness the sunset exodus of thousands of bats.
Continuing in Gunung Mulu National Park, you can also travel by longboat to Wind Cave where you can explore the ‘King’s Room’ before continuing to Clearwater Cave. Another exciting activity is travelling through the lush tree tops on the Mulu Canopy Skywalk, one of the longest tree based canopy walks in the world.
Day 5 to 6: Kota Kinabalu
Today you will fly to Kota Kinabalu, where you can enjoy Mari Mari culture, and learn about the ethnic groups in Sabah. You can also take a panoramic tour of Kota Kinabalu.
Day 7 to 8: Sukau
In the morning you will take a flight to Sandakan to visit Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre. For further wildlife experiences you can take a boat journey on the Kinabatangan River. You will have the opportunity to spot three kinds of leaf monkey and herds of pygmy elephant. On the Oxbow Lake you can search for the elusive Proboscis monkey, macaques, maroon langur and Bornean gibbon.
*Optional tour: visit to the Gomantong Caves, which includes a wildlife spotting cruise
Day 9: Sandakan
Return to Sandakan by road where you can continue your wildlife experience.
Day 10 to 11: Kuala Lumpur
Today you leave the wildlife for the metropolis of Kuala Lumpur. Here you can take a guided tour, including the vibrant Chinatown, the Indian temple of Sri Mahamariamman, the Chinese temple of Guan Di, and Merdeka Square where you can see Jamek Mosque and the impressive Sultan Abdul Samad Building.
Your flight home will leave this evening.
